CPR for Adults
It saves lives. Follow these steps. But REGISTER for a class that is usually given in a community center or at the YMCA.
1. Check if the person is unresponsive-"Are you OK?" and Gently tap their shoulder.
2. Tell someone to call 911 or any other emergency number.
3. Open the person's airway by gently lifting the chin up and pushing the head back,
if trama to the neck is present; place your middle & pointer finger on the jaw bone
and push down
4. Pinch the nose shut and seal your mouth over theirs, give two slow breaths, making sure
the person's chest has risen.
5. Count to 5 (1 1000 etc.)
6. Check to see if there are signs of circulation in the person. (Movement, coughing or breathing)
7. If they are not, begin CPR. 15 chest compressions, find the person's nipple line and place your
hand heel down and link your other hand over it. (I REALLY wish I had a digital camera)
8. Give 15 compressions and then 2 breaths. Repeat this cycle 4 times and end with 2 breaths
9. Reassess if the person has circulation (movement, breathing or coughing). If NO circulation is present, continue CPR for another minute.
10. If circulation is present, but the person is not breathing give one rescue breath every 5 seconds. (1 1000 2 1000)
11. If person is breathing then slowly turn them on their side towards you and moniter their breathing.
